How to discover my company’s mission?

In order to be different and inspiring you have to have a message, a mission, a sentence that keeps you going and aligns your entire team. Every company in the world knows what they do and how they do it but not all of them know why they do it. Simon Senik, the author of “ Start With Why “ book, has given us great insights on how the inspiring leading companies reached where they are today and how the world is behind them.

Only when we know why we do things, will we feel a sense of belonging. That’s why it’s a much more powerful way of getting us to decide.

Once you know the reason for the existence of your company and the value behind it, communicate it with your team. Let anyone who comes through your doors knows why.

Best employees are the backbone of the inspiring companies.

Which business wouldn’t want their employees to go above and beyond for the company’s success?

To do this, start by building your business around a cause. Then, assemble people who share your why.

Instead of relying on big paychecks, threatening deadlines or highly qualified graduates, look for the people who are already motivated by the same reasons as you are and inspire them even more.

Who would you rather have working for you?

Let your “why” become the reason your entire team is motivated and aligned and hustling.

Simon Senik gave us a great rule to use to discover our “why” in case we didn’t know what it was. He called it:

The Golden Circle

WHAT: Every company in the world knows what they do. i.e. They can describe their product or service.

HOW: Some companies know how they do what they do. They know how they’re different i.e. A unique selling point.

WHY: Very few companies know why they do what they do (and it’s not to make money, this is a result). Why do you get out of bed in the morning, what is the company’s purpose, and why should anyone care?

Your company’s why is your motivation and your team’s motivation. It is the change you wish to see and implement. Finding and know your “ why” is one of the most important things a founder should do.

It will even help you and your team in the future to make choices. Because every choice you make is to serve the “ why”.

“People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.”
